Submissions must be in by 13 June and should state reasons for objection or support and include people’s name, address and email.
“Do you think your village should expand? Do you think there should be more land sharing communities or should we have none? Should we save all our farmland for food production or allow eco-tourism developments? Do we want another 10,000 people living here in the next 20 years? These are the kind of questions the Discussion Paper raises,” Strategic Planning Coordinator Paula Newman explained.
“The Discussion Paper presents the challenges related to growth, employment, housing and how we live along with three possible options for responding to these challenges.”
“The options range from a ‘business as usual’ low-density, low-growth scenario to a high-density, high-growth, urban-focused option. These options are by no means set in stone – in fact, we have deliberately made them a bit controversial to stimulate discussion.”
“Using the community’s feedback, we may end up with different elements from each option. It’s incredibly important we get feedback now and have a final option that truly reflects the community’s wishes for further settlement, as this document will shape growth in Lismore for the next 20 years.”
Copies of the Discussion Paper are available for viewing at Council’s Corporate Centre, 43 Oliver Avenue, Goonellabah and Council’s CBD Office, 55 Magellan Street, Lismore during normal business hours Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 4.30pm throughout the exhibition period from 16 May to 13 June 2013. Alternatively, copies can be viewed online via the ‘Have Your Say’ section of Council’s website www.lismore.nsw.gov.au.
