A Few Words From the Editor
While updating some advertisements such as Earthen Hair and Beauty and Therapeutic Massage in this edition, I found myself reflecting on how often we forget to prioritise self care – especially those of us who live alone or whose partners are often away for work or travel. Without someone to gently nudge us towards rest or recreation, we sometimes don’t realise how depleted we’ve become until we stop.
There’s something wonderfully restorative about small treats like a haircut, a head massage, or a therapeutic massage—those moments where we hand over our stress and let someone else take care of us for a while.
Even better when we can plan an outing to the theatre (see Lismore Theatre Company article), see an exhibition (Lismore Regional Gallery), or visit the local Sports Club with a friend – something to look forward to, a break from routine, and a chance to reconnect.
But self care doesn’t have to cost a lot. Some of the most effective ways to refill your cup are completely free. A walk on the beach or in the bush, a barefoot moment on the grass, or simply lying under a tree and watching the sky. Brew a herbal tea, light a candle, stretch in the sunshine, or just sit and listen to the birds.
Read a book by the fire (see our book reviews), find out about community happenings and history by reading the Gazette or call a family member or friend to catch up with what is happening in their lives.
Enjoy a glass of wine (Imogen’s Wines), or head down to the club to watch the football – or join the DUFC Social 6’s football season.
Self care isn’t selfish. It’s essential—especially when no one else is around to remind you.
Until next time…
